'East Meets West' Season 1 Episode 20 Recap - Aired: Wednesday 25 May 2016

Anjana asks Rheka what’s happening in the house.
Rheka says grandmother is having an event.
Anjana complains about who will do the work.
Rheka says there are servants for that.


Udey is reading the papers. Lumita serves him tea.  He collects it with a frown.
She fearfully asks if the sugar is fine and if they would go out today.
He smiles and says the sugar is okay and they will go out.
Lumita smiles with relief.



Grandmother’s sister and her friends arrive.
The aunt complains about what Lisa is wearing. She says she should dress traditional.
Ranbir says Lisa is a foreigner.
Aunty tells everyone to sit and start the prayers, then she says the prayer is to be said by the new daughter-in-law.
Lisa panics.
Lisa is put in the middle of the circle and told to say the prayer.
Lisa is unable to.
The aunt says Lisa can never be one of them.
She says the other daughter in law, Lumita, could have said the prayers.

The aunt says the prayers.

Lisa phones Abhay, crying. She says she really wants to be a part of the family but they expect her to change overnight. She says she needs some time.
She tells him what happened at the prayer session.
He tells her to forget the guests as long as no one in the family said anything.
Lisa says she will try to adjust.


Udey and Lumita go out and he gets her ice cream. They play with it.
Udey thinks sometimes he feels he's making a mistake when he thinks she is not happy with him but he knows something is up.


After the guests leave, grandmother says she's happy she did it.
Ranbir says it's good to pray to the goddess. He says Uma should always pray to the goddess.
Anjana asks if Lisa shouldn't learn to pray too.
Uma says Lisa embarrassed them in front of grandmother guests.
Lisa comes downstairs and apologises to them all and says she will try.
Grandmother tells her not to worry, at least she tried. Rhama also tells her not to worry, with time she will learn everything.


Banwari tells Ranbir that Lisa has the courage to accept her mistakes and she will learn quickly.
Ranbir says that's exactly what he wants.


Anjana is with Rheka again, gossiping. She asks if she saw what happened at the prayer with Lisa.
Rheka says she likes what happened.
Lisa enters the room and tells Rheka that she apologised to the family.
Rheka says she didn't need to apologise, what happened was Ranbir’s fault and he just pretends in front of her.
Anjana says it true but Lisa says she doesn't agree.
Rheka tells her to sit so they can talk but Lisa says she has to go and attend to grandmother.
Rheka starts to think that she now understands want Ranbir is doing and says she will come up with a new method to keep Udey and Lumita apart for ever.


Lisa goes to give Rhama her medicine. As Lisa  is helping to adjust the blanket on the bed, Ranbir comes in and sees her.
He tells Rhama that they have an appointment with the doctors.
He helps her out of bed and Lisa joins him in supporting Rhama.


Lisa is in the kitchen trying to cook. There is a huge mess on the table.
Uma comes in and Lisa asks for the vegetable cutter.
Uma says she doesn’t know her way around the kitchen as it is not her job.
She points out with disgust that Lisa made a mess.
She says she wants coffee and Lisa should bring it to her in the living room because she can’t stand the sight of the mess.

Lisa goes to ask Uma how many sugars she needs.
Uma tells her to just bring the sugar to her, she will take what she needs.
Rhama and Ranbir return from the hospital.
She sees Lisa and says it seems she has been working in the kitchen all alone.
Lisa says she has and Rhama offers to help her.
Uma says Rhama should rest.
Lisa says she will manage; Rhama needs her rest.
Ranbir says Lisa is right. He tells her to make him a cup of tea too.
Ranbir leaves them and goes to his room. He begins to search the room.
Rhama thanks Lisa for the tea and Uma says hers is not bad.
Lisa is happy...but not for long.

Ranbir comes down to tell Rhama that he can't find his packet of valuables.
She tells him to search the room and he says he has searched.
She asks who was there and he says he and Rhama... and Lisa.
He suggests that they check Lisa’s room.
Liam says she hasn't stolen anything and Ranbir always treats her like this.
Grandmother tells her not to take it that way.
Lisa is crying.  Rhama consoles her.
Ranbir says they should all go and check for the package.


Banwari comes downstairs and says everyone has looked for the package in their rooms so Lisa should go and search hers.
Lisa says she won't go because Ranbir already accused her.
Rhama consoles her.
Lisa says she is from a good family.
Ranbir asks why won't she go and check. Lisa says everyone already suspects her because of what Ranbir said.
Ranbir says she left him no choice.
He goes to her room to check.
 Rhama and Banwari are watching him.

Lisa phones Abhay and cries to him on the phone. She says it's his father again.
Abhay says he knows his family loves her and they have accepted her.
He doesn't wait for her to tell him the actual story before he hangs up.


Back in the hotel room, Udey tells Lumita that they've see all the tourist attractions and there's nothing left to see so what does she think they should do.
She asks him what he thinks is appropriate.
He holds her hand and says they've spent so much time together but he still feels like he doesn't know her.
She withdraws her hand and walks away.
Udey calls reception and Lumita asks if they are leaving.
Udey is clearly upset. He says they are leaving, this evening.
They start packing and Lumita is thinking he is upset because of her but she is in a dilemma.

Lisa goes downstairs to tell grandmother that she is not happy with what is happening.
Rheka and Anjana are there.
Ranbir comes down and Banwari says he doesn't understand how such a package got missing.
Lisa says she told them she didn't take any package.
Anjana asks Ranbir why he would think that Lisa took a package.
Ranbir says they are just blowing the whole thing out of proportion; it’s not a big deal.


Rhama comes to meet Lisa in her room to console her. Lisa is still crying.
She says she can't stay anymore if Ranbir doesn't trust her.
She moves to the wardrobe to start packing her things.
Rhama is crying and pleading with her to stay but Lisa insists she must leave.
Banwari asks Ranbir what they would do now since they couldn't find the package.
 Ranbir says the package is safe with him.
Banwari is surprised. He commends Ranbir on a job well done.
Ranbir tells him to keep it to himself.


Rhama begs Lisa to stay.
Lisa leaves the room with her suitcase.
Rhama tells Ranbir to beg Lisa to stay.
Ranbir says he has accepted her into the house and she is leaving on her own.
Rhama says she is leaving because of what Ranbir accused her of.
Ranbir says he did nothing wrong and Lisa should know it is late at night and not safe to go outside.
He asks if Rhama wants him to get on his knees and beg Lisa.
Rhama says she doesn't want him to get on his knees, he should just tell her to stay.
Ranbir says he has had enough and they should go to bed. He drags Rhama with him.


Lisa walks with her suitcase to the front door, in tears.
She remembers the wedding day when she came into the house.

She gets to the front door and opens it.

'East Meets West' Season 1 Episode 19 Recap - Aired: Tuesday 24 May 2016

Udey and Lumita are in their hotel room, getting ready for bed.
Udey holds Lumita and touches her hair while looking lovingly into her eyes.
His phone starts to ring but he ignores it. It keeps ringing, so Lumita tells him to answer it.
He picks up ad it’s his mother, Rheka.
He tells her that everything is fine.
He gives the phone to Lumita and Rheka tells her not to forget what the priest said.
After the call, Udey holds her again but Lumita says she’s very tired and she goes to lie down on her side of the bed, facing the wall.
Udey is not happy about this; he gets on his own side of the bed.



Abhay is thinking of what he overheard his father saying, about wanting Lisa to stay back in India when Abhay travels.
He decides that he will make his father happy by asking Lisa to stay back.
In the morning, Lisa wakes him up and he tells her he has seen how she is trying to fit into the family; she now wakes up early.
She says she's doing it all for him and the family.
He tells her that he's been thinking about going to America alone. She asks why?
He says his mum is ill and his father has just started accepting her so it's not a good time to leave.
Lisa says his mum is fine and she can get close to his dad when they get back.
Abhay insists that he wants her to stay back. She gets upset and leaves the room.

Lumita wakes up in the morning and Udey is still asleep.  He wakes up shortly after and she asks if she should order tea for him.
He leaves the room in anger but comes back to ask if she wants to stay in the hotel or go out.
She says whatever he wants to do and he says they will go out.


At breakfast, Rheka asks when grandfather and the couple are leaving.  Grandfather asks Abhay if they will be done packing today.
Abhay says he will be done packing.
Rheka says what about Lisa.  Lisa says she is not going; it is her decision.
Rheka asks why and she says her mother-in-law is not feeling well.
Rhama says Lisa shouldn't stay back because of her as she is okay now.
Rheka too says Lisa has to go.
Ranbir says Lisa has made a wise decision.
Grandfather says in that case, they should get packing.


Udey and Lumita go out into the town again to sightsee.
He takes her shopping. She tries on the outfit and he's really pleased with what he sees.
Back home, Abhay is packing and Lisa is upset.
He tells her he is lucky to have her as his wife and she says she is lucky too and will try to adjust when he's not around and she will take care of his family.


Abhay and grandfather say their goodbyes to the family.
Rheka still brings up the matter of Lisa not going. She tells Ranbir that his daughter-in-law should be allowed to go.
Ranbir’s response is that Lisa is HIS daughter-in- law. His emphasis is a way or telling her to mind her own business.


Udey gets a call from the hotel manager inviting him to a party the hotel is having.
He tells Lumita to get ready for the party and helps her pick out what to wear.
He tells her to meet him downstairs.
Lumita dresses up then goes downstairs to meet Udey.
He is speechless when he sees her. He walks up to her and takes her to the dance floor.
As he tries to dance with her, she turns away, remembering what Rheka said.
She says she wants to go back to the room.

In the room, Udey asks her what is wrong; doesn't she like him because she keeps pulling away from him. He says if she didn't want the marriage, she shouldn’t have gone through with it.
Lumita tries to explain but Udey says he doesn't want to hear it; he’s convinced that she never accepted him as her husband.
Lumita is in tears.


In the morning, the house phone rings and Nena answers the call.
After the call, she is in tears as she informs the family that her mother has fallen ill so she has to go.
Grandmother sympathises with her and says they will give her some money to go.
Banwari asks if they should allow her go on her own and Ranbir says they will send the male servant to go with her.
He gives the man some money to take Nena home.
When the rest of the family clears out of the living room, Ranbir commends Banwari on the good job he did.
He says they will now see how Lisa will take care of the family by herself.


Lumita wakes up and Udey is not in the room.
He comes in from the bathroom and she asks if she should order him tea. He says no but he picks the phone and orders tea for himself.
Ranbir sees Rhama helping Lisa in the kitchen.  He tells Rhama to go and rest.
Lisa says she will manage it.
Rhama says she won't be able to handle it alone but Ranbir says Lisa will learn if she is given the chance.


Lumita tells Udey that she is going to take a shower.
He ignores her.
Rheka calls and asks him what's wrong. He says everything is fine but she insists that he tells her.
He says he doesn't think Lumita is happy and instead of growing closer, they're drifting apart.
Rheka says this was what she was afraid of, she says she wants him happy but Lumita is his wife and he needs to look after her.
Lumita gets out of the bathroom and Udey is not in the room. She phones the manager and asks where Udey is.
The manager says he left the hotel so she asks how she can make a call with the  hotel phone and he tells her how.


Lisa takes milk to grandmother in her room and tells her to remember to take her drugs.
Grandmother says Lisa should be honest with her; she must be feeling bad that Udey and Lumita are on theri honeymoon while she is at home.
Lisa says she is not feeling bad because Udey and Lumita needed the honeymoon.
Ranbir is outside listening and seems to feel a little bit of remorse.


Lumita walks to the beach looking for Udey.
She hears people talking about a man that drowned and she rushes to the scene.
The man is lying face down in a shirt similar to Udey's.

She looks up and sees Udey. She rushes to him, relieved and hugs him in tears.
She asks why he left her and he tells her not to cry.
They get to their room and she's still crying.  He begs her not to cry and she asks why he left.
He said he needed some time alone and he didn't know it would take long.
She begs him not to be worried because her.
He says he knows she has a good heart and won't want to hurt anyone.
He tells her to rest and she says she knows he hasn't eaten.
He calls room service and orders food for them.
Lumita thinks about how lucky she is to have a person like Udey and how she is torn by the secret.

Lisa calls Abhay at night. She says she's missing him and he says he misses her too and he will be back as soon as possible.
He gets another call and they say their goodbyes.


Ranbir and Rhama are together. Grandmother joins them and says she was thinking that it's been long since they had a prayer ceremony at home and they should have one.
Ranbir says they can have it today.
Grandmother says Nena and Nando are not home.
Rhama says she will handle it and Ranbir says they should have another one when Udey and Lumita come back.
Rhama tells Lisa about the prayers and tells her to try not to make any mistakes.  Ranbir is listening.

'East Meets West' Season 1 Episode 18 Recap - Aired: Monday 23 May 2016

Banwari asks Ranbir if he has heard from Udey and Lumita.
Ranbir says everything is fine and he doesn't have any worries.
Banwari says Abhay and Lisa have a lot of tension between them; Abhay wants Lisa to look after his mother and Lisa is upset she didn't go on the honeymoon.
Banwari suggests they let the tension between them grow so it won't take long for Abhay to leave his wife.
Ranbir says he already has a plan to get Lisa out of Abhay’s life.



Abhay is getting ready to go out. Lisa asks where he is going and he says he's going for a jog.
She offers to join him but he tells her to stay home and take care of his mother.
She agrees.


Udey wakes up but Lumita is still asleep.
She soon wakes up and sees him staring at her.
She says she's sorry she slept off.
He tells her they are on honeymoon and can sleep as long as they want.
She gets up but slips and he holds her up.
They stare into each other’s eyes then she breaks free and walks away.
He wonders if she's upset with him.


Ranbir is with Rhama in the room. Lisa brings her tea and says if she needs anything else, she should let her know.
Ranbir is not impressed but Rhama is; she thanks Lisa and says if she continues like this, soon everyone will like her.
As she is leaving, Ranbir calls her back and tells her to listen to Rhama.
Rhama is happy that Ranbir is speaking to Lisa.
Lisa can hardly believe her ears; she thanks him and leaves the room in excitement.


Rheka is complaining that she can't reach Udey.
Ranjeet tells her to relax.
Anjana enters the room and asks Rheka if she's alright because she looks like she didn't sleep.
Ranjeet tells her that Rheka is worried about Udey and Lumita and could barely sleep.


Udey gets a call from Abhay. Abhay ask how it is going and Udey says the city and weather are lovely.
Abhay says he is asking about Lumita. Udey is quiet.
Abhay prompts him to say what is going on.
Udey says he thinks Lumita it unhappy with him; sometimes when he's with her, she looks like she's in her own world.
Abhay advises him to bring Lumita to his own world by taking her out and making her happy.
After the call, Lumita enters the room and Udey tells her that they are going out.
Lumita is happy to hear that.


Rheka stands in the doorway to Rhama’s room and asks how she is feeling.
Rhama invites her to come in.
She tells Rheka that she’s glad that Abhay and Lisa didn't go on the honeymoon because Ranbir spoke to Lisa for the first time, with love.
Rheka is not happy.

Lisa goes to Abhay in excitement and tells him that his father spoke to her with so much love.
Abhay is happy about the development and proceeds to give her more tips on how to win everyone over.
There's a knock and Rheka comes in.
She says they seem very happy.
Abhay gets a phonecall so he goes out to receive it.
Lisa tells Rheka about Ranbir and Rheka says Lisa should not lose her identity by doing the servants’ jobs;  Lumita is already doing the work.
Lisa says she wants the family to be happy with her, if Lumita does it then she will also, so she can win Ranbir’s heart.
Rheka is not liking this at all.


Lumita tells Udey that she is ready.
They go out to sight see and stop to get some ice-cream and snacks.
They chat on the way and seem to be getting closer.
At a point, she falls asleep in the car and rests her head on his shoulder.

Lisa goes into kitchen and tells Nena that she wants to make dinner.
Nena offers to help but Lisa says she will manage.
She tells Nena to help her get a recipe book so she can follow it and make traditional food.


Udey and Lumita enter a restaurant. They see other couples getting cosy.
Lumita is uncomfortable.
Udey asks what she wants and she says whatever he is having.
Udey’s lady friend whom he met at the reception of their hotel, comes in to say ‘Hi’ to them.
Her husband joins them and she introduces him to them.
Udey asks where they are staying and the friend says they are starting in the same hotel.


Rheka is worried that Lisa is no longer under her control. She vows to do something about it
Banwari comes in and hands her the house phone, saying Udey is on the line.
Udey says he and Lumita are fine and having a good time.
Rheka asks to speak with Lumita and Udey passes the phone.
Rheka asks Lumita if she's following the priest’s advice.
Lumita assures her that she is and that she will take care of Udey.
Banwari is listening.


Rheka sees Lisa serving Ranbir and she gets worried.


Udey orders for spaghetti and Lamita struggles with the fork and knife so he orders for traditional food and she uses her hand.


Grandmother and grandfather are chatting.
He takes a phone call and afterwards, he tells grandmother that the high Command is sending him to go on a month long tour to America.
Grandmother is not happy.


Lisa follows the recipe book and struggles to make the food.


The family gathers at the table for dinner.
Rheka tells Lisa to sit down but Lisa says she will help Nena serve.
Ranbir says the food smells good and Nena says Lisa made it.
Rhama commends her.
The food is served but Uma complains about the salt.
Rheka says Lisa shouldn't have bothered to take on something she can't do
Banwari says Rheka should commend Lisa for her effort.
Ranbir concurs and says Lisa made an effort which is a good thing and she can learn from Lumita.
He tells Abhay to order a meal.


Grandmother tells to Ranbir that his father is going to America for one month.
Grandmother says it is just for work.
Rheka asks grandfather what job he has for Vinay.
Grandfather says she should ask Ranbir.
Ranbir says that Vinay is already working on a contract.
Rhama points out that Abhay is also not sorted.
Ranbir says that Abhay will go with grandfather to America to understudy a friend's business then come back to open a franchise in India.
Rheka thinks he is trying to separate Abhay and Lisa. so she says Abhay and Lisa should be on their honeymoon so the trip to America will be good for them. She asks Ranbir what he thinks.
Ranbir surprises her by saying Lisa is Abhay's wife so she will always be by his side, be it America or India.


Udey and Lumita are on the beach. He tries to get her to the water and she refuses but he carries her.
They play together and have a lot of fun.

Lisa sees Rheka and Anjana talking and says she wants to tell her something.  Rheka asks what it is.
Lisa acts as if something is wrong but then she laughs and says she just wants to thank her for suggesting to father that she goes to America with Abhay.


Ranbir and Banwari are are playing chess.
Banwari commends Ranbir on his moves and Ranbir says Rheka has used Udey and Lumita to her advantage but now it’s his turn to use Abhay and Lisa.
He whispers a plan to Banwari.


Uma helps Rhama to grandmother's room.
Rhama says she wants to stop resting and start the house chores again.
They talk about how Ranbir has changed and now accepts Lisa.


Abhay tells Lisa that his father loves him a lot so, now he is sending them to America.
Banwari comes to them and says they will have a lot of romantic times in America.
Abhay says it's for work.
Banwari asks if Abhay has noticed that Ranbir has changed and Abhay says he has.
Banwari asks Abhay if he thinks his parents will really be happy if he goes to America after only just returning
He suggests that Abhay speaks to his dad about it, especially as his mother is still recovering.


Ranbir is with Rhama and his mother in the room.
Banwari comes in and gives him a sign that he has carried out their plan.
Grandmother commends Ranbir for his new attitude towards Abhay and Lisa.


Abhay makes his way upstairs and as he gets close to the door of grandmother’s room, Banwari give Ranbir a signal.
Ranbir says he never liked Lisa but he is beginning to accept her. He says the only problem is that Abhay and Lisa are going to America but if Lisa stays and looks after Rhama, they won't miss Abhay so much.
He also points out that Lisa is just beginning to learn their customs and it is not a good time for her to leave.
Grandmother suggests Ranbir speaks to Abhay but Ranbir says he doesn't want to o decide for Abhay he just wants Abhay to be happy.
Abhay is listening, with tears in his eyes.

'East Meets West' Season 1 Episode 17 Recap - Aired: Friday 20 May 2016

Banwari asks Ranbir what is wrong.
Ranbir says he's worried.
Banwari says Lumita has been acting strange since Rheka took her to the priest.
Ranbir points out that Rheka doesn't even believe in astrology so he knows something is up.
He thinks Rheka may have brainwashed Lumita.
Banwari says he noticed that Lumita has been acting cold towards Ranbir.
Ranbir says he will do something before Lumita falls into Rheka's evil plans.



Govind tells Hardeep that he's not happy because he hasn't seen Lumita in a while
Hardeep says they also need to worry about their responsibilities in the village.
Govind says he doesn't trust Rheka.
Hardeep assures him that Rheka is taking care of Lumita; Lumita said so herself.
He complains about Ranbir and Hardeep assures him that all is well.
He agrees to go to the village.
Hardeep says they must see Lumita first.


Ranbir approaches Lumita during the Morning Prayer ritual. As she wants to walk away, he tells her he has a gift for her; it will bring her protection.
He gives her a photograph of the one they pray to.
She accepts it and he thanks her.
He asks what Rheka took her to the priest for and Lumita says Rheka already told everyone.
As she leaves, Ranbir is happy she spoke to him.

Lumita brings tea to everyone, she places Ranbir’s cup on the table in front of him instead of handing it to him like the others.


Govind and Hardeep come to visit.
Lumita hugs them in excitement.
They inform the family that they are going back to the village so they came to say goodbye to Lumita.
Everyone leaves Lumita and her family in the living room.
Ranbir tries to talk to Govind but Govind ignores him.


Lumita tells her aunt and uncle that she will be so lonely if they leave town. She is crying.
They console her and say they will be back in a while after she gets back from her honeymoon.
Hardeep gives her a perfume and says she should use it on her honeymoon so that her husband will not be able to stay away from her.
Lumita continue to cry because she can't tell her aunt what she is going through.


Lumita enters the room crying and Udey tells her that he doesn't like to see her cry.
He begs her not to feel bad that her uncle and aunt have left because he and his family will take care of her.
To take her mind of the issue, he tells her that he doesn't really know how to pack and asks if she will help him.
She smiles and agrees.


Abhay and Lisa enter the room and say they have packed their own stuff.
Anjana enters also and says she's sure that Abhay did all the work with packing their own stuff.
Lisa says she actually did all the packing and Abhay didn't do anything.
Udey says in a marriage, it doesn't matter who does what.


Anjana goes to Rheka and says the couples are going on honeymoon together; she asks what will happen if Lisa becomes like Lumita or Lumita becomes like Lisa.
Rheka begins to think of who she can use to ensure Lisa and Abhay do not go on the trip.

She goes to the kitchen and meets Nena making tea for Rhama.
She tells Nene to gets her pills because she has a headache.
As Nena leaves, Rheka puts something in the tea.
Ranjeet is in the living as Nena is taking the tea to Rhama, he asks for the tea but Rheka quickly tells him to allow Nena take it to Rhama because she has been waiting for a while.
Nena takes the tea to Rhama and Rheka watches as she takes a sip.


The couples are about to leave for their honeymoon and Rheka asks why Rhama isn't in the living room to say goodbye. She thinks the drug she put in the tea would have taken effect already.
Ranbir calls Rhama and to Rheka’s surprise, Rhama shows up, looking as healthy as can be.
The family say their goodbyes to the couple and as they get to the door, Rhama faints.

A doctor comes in and tells them she will be alright. She fainted due to fatigue and needs to rest.
Abhay tells her to rest and take her medication.
Rhama says she will be fine and he should go on his honeymoon.
Abhay says he's not going, Udey says they will all stay.
Ranbir says the family will take care of Rhama but Abhay can stay.
Udey says they should all go but Abhay says he will not go;  he insists Udey should go.


Lisa is crying in the room. Rheka goes to her and says Ranbir should have convinced Abhay to go. She says it's a pity that Udey and Lumita will enjoy their honeymoon whilst Lisa and Abhay will be home.
She says it's a bit strange that Rhama fell ill at the last minute. She says Ranbir could have been planning it all along as he didn’t want Abhay and Lisa to go on the honeymoon.


On the way, Udey and Lumita discuss the issue with Abhay and Lisa.
Lumita says a silent prayer to God for strength to keep her promise to stay away from Udey.


Lisa asks Rhama if she needs anything.  Rhama says she's is fine and not sick; she's only in bed because everyone insists.
Lisa says if she needs anything, she should let her know. Then she leaves the room.

Grandmother, Abhay and Ranbir enter the room.
Ranbir tells his mother that she will have to take care of Rhama since Lumita is not around and nothing can be expected from Lisa.
Rhama says Lisa just asked her if she needed anything and that he shouldn't worry, Lisa will soon be like Lumita.
Ranbir says Lisa will never be like Lumita.
Abhay says if he keeps comparing Lisa to Lumita then how he will see the good qualities in Lisa.
Ranbir asks why Lisa is not with Rhama; she just checked on her and left.


Abhay goes to the room to scold Lisa for not taking care of his mother.
She says she checked up on her but she says she was fine so she left.
He says if she continues to stay away his father will never accept her.
Abhay says he loves her but she needs to try harder so his father can accept her.
Lisa says she should be given some more time, she will try.


Udey and Lumita get to the hotel for their honeymoon.
He runs into a friend at the reception and introduces her to Lumita.
Lumita responds in a traditional way to the greeting and Udey looks a little embarrassed.

They enter the decorated rooms and he holds her hand. They stare at each other for a while as he holds unto the hand.


Rheka is in her room and Udey comes in with Lumita.
She's shocked and asks why they came so soon.
Udey leaves the room and Lumita breaks down crying that she couldn't keep her promise.
Rheka wakes up in shock from her dream and says it's a dream but it may come through.


Back in the honeymoon suite, Udey leaves Lumita to go and freshen up.
When he gets back into the room, Lumita pretends to be sleeping.
He gets on the bed and covers her up with a blanket.
When he switches of the bedside lamp, she opens her eyes.

'East Meets West' Season 1 Episode 16 Recap - Aired: Thursday 19 May 2016

Rheka and Udey come back home, to everyone's relief.
Everyone gathers around them.
Lumita rushes to Udey. She holds his hand and it gets awkward between them.
Rheka explains that their car had a punctured tyre but thanks to everyone’s prayers they were able to avoid an accident.
She says  the driver didn't have a spare but they got a taxi home and they have Udey to thank for making them come back home.

When everybody else leaves the living room, Ranbir tells Rheka that he's glad she finally listened to Udey and came back home.
Rheka says he wouldn't get rid of her so easily.




Lumita is sleeping on the bed. Udey enters and stares at her lovingly, then he gets in bed and covers her up with a blanket.
In the morning, Lumita sees him sleeping then her face breaks into a smile.


She goes to the kitchen and tells Rhama and Nena to let her make some tea.
Rhama asks if the tea is for Udey.
Lumita blushes and says she doesn't know if he will like it.
Rhama assures her that he will like it.


Lumita takes two cups of tea to Abhay and Lisa’s room. Abhay wakes Lisa up and Lumita says she only one cup because Lisa doesn't like tea.
Lisa wakes up and kisses Abhay, holding unto him.
Abhay is very uncomfortable and he looks at Lumita. She looks away.
Lumita leaves the room and Abhay berates Lisa for kissing him in front of Lumita.
Lisa says she didn't know Lumita was there and besides he's her husband so she can kiss him.


Lumita greets Rheka in the hallway. Rheka asks why she is the one making tea. Lumita says she wants to serve and take care of everyone as they are all older than her.
Lumita takes Tea to Udey in the room. He says he doesn't want tea.
Rheka is standing by the door, listening. She’s happy with Udey’s refusal to take the tea.
Udey tells Lumita that since she made the tea for him, he will gladly take it.
He takes it from her and sips.
Rheka is not happy.

Lumita tells Udey that she can bring him lunches at work instead of him to keep ordering for lunch.
Udey gets a phone call and leaves the room.

Rheka enters the room and pretends to have a headache.  She tells Lumita that she had a dream and wants to know if Lumita got intimate with Udey last night.
Lumita says she didn't.
Rheka says, “thank God” because it would have been a disaster, going by what she saw in her dream.
She tells Lumita to get ready so they can both go to a man who will give her protection.


Udey sees Lumita getting ready. He looks at her in admiration.
She sees him staring and asks if it's OK for her to go out with his mother.
Udey tells her that she doesn't need his permission to go out with his mother.
Lumita is so shy, she can barely look him or anyone in the face.

Rheka and Lumita get downstairs and grandmother asks where they are going to.
Rheka says there's been something threatening Udey and Lumita's marriage so she wants to take Lumita to a priest.
Rhama points out that Rheka doesn’t believe in astrology so she’s surprised that she wants to go and see a priest.
Grandmother says it is a good idea.


Abhay asks Lisa what she's thinking. She says she's thinking about Lumita making tea for him.
He says she should be like Lumita, wake up early and make him tea.
Lisa says waking up early is difficult for her but she will try.


On the way, Rheka asks Lumita why she's nervous. She assures her that the priest is a very renowned one and he will tell them how to ensure that Lumita’s marriage to Udey is a happy one.
She starts to blame Ranbir again for things not going right in the marriage.
Lumita listens quietly.


Banwari tells Ranbir that Rheka took Udey away at the last minute and he knows Ranbir doesn't like it.
Ranbir says he doesn't like Udey staying away from Lumita.
He says Rheka always has a plan and he won't relax until Udey and Lumita are gone on their honeymoon.
Rheka and Lumita meet the priest. She asks him if he had the horoscopes of Lumita and Udey.
The priest says the horoscope is not good that it why they've been having issues in their marriage.
He turns to Lumita and says she got married to the wrong person that's why her father died and her husband had an accident.
Lumita is crying.
Rheka calms her down.
The priest tells Rheka that as a result of Lumita’s horoscopes not being good, Udey is in danger.
Rheka feigns panic and asks what they should do.
The priest says lumita should stay away from Udey for 21days.

Abhay and Udey are outside the house, on the swing. Abhay tells Udey that he is very naive and doesn’t really know how to handle a woman.
Udey says he has Abhay as his mentor so he is happy.
Abhay says he should stop being too polite for one and that he will teach him all he needs to know while they are away on their honeymoon.
Lumita assures Rheka and the priest that she will stay away from intimacy with Udey so as to save his life.
On the way home, Rheka tells Lumita that she knows it will be difficult to follow the Priest’s orders but she has to and they won't discuss it with anyone in the family.
She tells her not to tell Udey because he doesn’t believe in it.
Lumita agrees not to tell anyone.
Rheka says she will cheer her up by taking her shopping so as to get her ready for her honeymoon.
Lumita says she doesn’t want to go on her honeymoon anymore.
Rheka panics at hearing that. She thinks to herself that Ranbir will blame her if Lumita and Udey don’t go for the honeymoon so she tells Rheka that she needs to go but she should just not get intimate with Udey.


When they get home with the shopping bags, they meet the family in the living room.
Grandmother asks whether they went to the priest like they had earlier said or went shopping.
Rheka says she took Lumita to shop for herself but instead Lumita got gifts for everyone in the house.
Ranbir whispers to Rhama that he wonders why Rheka took Lumita to a priest.
Grandmother asks what the priest said and Rheka lies that he said all is well.
Lumita gives gifts to everyone except Ranbir.
Rheka says Lumita got traditional wears for Lisa but she’s afraid Lisa might not like it.


When everyone else leaves the living room, Banwari asks Ranbir what Rheka is up to.
Ranbir says they need to find out the reason why Rheka took Lumita to a priest.


Lumita goes to meet Lisa and Abhay in their room to give them their gifts.
Lisa opens her gift and says it is pretty but she doesn't wear traditional dresses.
Abhay tells Lumita that Udey is lucky to have married a girl like her.
When Lumita leaves the room, Abhay berates Lisa for not appreciating the gift Lumita gave her.


Lumita gives Udey a necklace and tells him it's for God to protect him. He thanks her and puts it on.


At night, as Rheka is getting ready for bed. Ranjeet says that she has changed and she's really doing right by Lumita.
Rheka says she's their daughter in law so it's her duty.
Her inner voice says Ranjeet is clueless and has no idea that she wants to keep Lumita from getting close to Ranbir and getting intimate with Udey.

'East Meets West' Season 1 Episode 15 Recap - Aired: Wednesday 18 May 2016

Lisa goes to meet Abhay in the room, crying.  She asks how long his father will continue to torment her like this. She tells him what happened and he says she’s not supposed to go into the temple with her shoes so his father did the right thing.
She asks what he would do if he were in her shoes.
He says he would learn about the culture and not cry over every little thing.
She says they should never have left the hotel to move to the house.

Rheka is listening to them argue. She goes to Ranbir to complain that his son and daughter-in-law are fighting.
She tells him that she doesn't think Abhay can control Lisa like Ranbir can.



Udey thanks Lumita for coming back. She says she has accepted that this as her family and she needs to take care of them.
He says he wants them to be very good friends.
She takes the pillow and is about to place on the floor to sleep but he tells her to sleep on the bed while he sleeps on the floor.
She refuses at first and when he insists, she says they can try something else; she sleeps on one side while he sleeps on try other.
He agrees and they both get on the bed but lie far away from each other.


Lisa takes her pillow in anger and leaves the bed.
She tells Abhay to go and sleep in the hall. Abhay asks if she wants everyone to know they're fighting.
She says she won't sleep with him on the same bed so he should sleep on the couch.
He reluctantly moves to the couch.


Lumita tells Udey that she wants to tell him something.
He asks what it is and she says he's very sweet.
She closes her eyes.
He turns to look at her and smiles.
In the morning, he watches her getting ready and as he approaches her, his phone rings.
He listens then tells his mother to get ready while he gets the car keys.
He leaves in a hurry and Lumita is sad.


Rhama serves her husband tea.  He says he doesn't want it and she asks what he's upset about.
He asks if she still refuses to believe that Abhay made a big mistake by marrying Lisa.
Rhama says Lisa needs time to adjust to the culture.
Ranbir says she's already fighting with Abhay and if it doesn't stop, he won't tolerate the behaviour.
Rhama tells him that she will talk to Lisa.


Abhay is making coffee in the kitchen. Nena helps him and asks where his wife is.
He says she is sleeping  and if the coffee isn't made properly, Lisa will get angry again.
She helps him make thethe coffee.
Rhama enters the kitchen and asks what he's doing.
Nena says he's making coffee for his sleeping wife.
Rhama says a man who fights with his wife has to make up. She encourages him to take it to her.

He takes the coffee to Lisa in bed and gives her a flower.
She wakes up and asks what the big deal is.
He says he's never been to a kitchen before and a man does not cook in the Indian culture.
He tells her to drink and promise to take care of her husband.
They make up.


Lumita enters the kitchen and greets Rhama.
She tells Rhama to go and rest whilst she handles the chores; she wants to take care of everyone.


Banwari asks Ranbir what Rheka 's problem is.
He says he hears Rheka is planning to send Lisa and Abhay on honeymoon.
Ranbir says it's because he planned Lumita and Udey' s honeymoon, so Rheka is trying to get even.

Ranjeet comes downstairs to meet them and Ranbir asks for Udey.
Ranjeet informs him that Rheka's mother is ill so Udey took her to see her.
Ranbir is upset. He says Rheka knows Udey and Lumita should be preparing for their honeymoon and he shouldn’t be going anywhere.


Rhama comes to Lisa and Abhay’s room and tells Abhay to excuse them.
He leaves and Rhama tells Lisa that fights are between husbands and wives but it shouldn't allow the relationship to be affected; they should be careful not to air their dirty linen in public, noone should hear their fights.
Lisa apologises and says she's will never let it happen again.


Ranbir is shouting about what Rheka did. He complains to his mother and father.
He says Udey should not have been taken away.
Anjana says they will be back at night. Ranbir says Rheka should have taken Lumita along as well.
Grandmother agrees.
Rhama asks why Lumita didn't stop Udey from going.
Lumita says taking care of grandmother is more important than their honeymoon.
Ranjeet comes in and they ask him about Rheka. He says her mother is better and they will return tomorrow.


Lumita comes to meet Lisa in her room.
She says she sees Lisa is packing for her honeymoon. She asks if she needs help and Lisa says she can manage.
Lumita says she feels bad for what happened at the temple.
Lisa says it’s not her fault; the custom is new to her.
Lumita says she shouldn't worry and she would teach her all she needs to learn.
Lisa asks if she has packed and if she needs anything, she should let her know.
She asks if Udey has called and Lumita says he hasn’t but she's sure he would call.


Lumita gets back to her room and the phone rings. It's Udey.
She asks how he is and his grandmother.
He says he will be back tomorrow; he knows she is lonely and they need to pack for their honeymoon.
She says their grandmother’s health is more important than their honeymoon.
She tells him not to worry about her.


Banwari says he found out that Rheka’s mother is not sick at all, just old.
Ranbir says he knows Rheka just wants to stop Udey and Lumita from going on their honeymoon.
He vows that Udey and Lumita must go on their honeymoon.


Lisa and Abhay are in bed. She says she’s thinking of Udey and that Lumita must be very lonely.
She says Udey should not have left Lumita.
Abhay makes excuses for Udey and Rheka.
Abhay asks what will happen if he needs to travel and leave her for a few days.
She warns him never to talk like that because she will never allow it.


She wakes up in the morning and Abhay is not in bed.
She opens the door and sees Lumita in the hallway.
They say hello and Lumita struggles to tell her that she cannot wear her nightgown downstairs.
Lisa thanks her.


Lumita performs the prayer rituals.  Vinay watches her from the balcony.
Ranvir meets her and partakes in the ritual. He is happy.
Anjana and Abhay also partake in the ritual.
Ranjeet commends Lumita.
Lisa comes and asks if she can try
She fumbles and Lumita shows her the proper way to do it.
Lisa follows Lumita lead and does it properly.
Ranbir angrily tells her that she understands nothing of their culture.


Abhay goes up to his mother to complain that he doesn't like how his father treats Lisa. Lisa is trying yet his father still puts her down.
Umah, who is sitting with Rhama, tells him that Lisa doesn’t understand their culture.
Rhama cautions her and tells Abhay to have patience. She says she will talk to Ranbir.
She tells Abhay that she finds Lisa’s effort commendable.


The family is gathered in the living room.
Ranbir asks where Rheka is.
Grandmother says they ought to have been back since last night but it’s morning now.
Rhama tells Ranjeet to call them again.
Ranjeet says he has been trying but he cannot get through. He calls his Rheka’s mother.
She tells him that Rheka and Udey already left in the morning and they ought to have arrived.
He relays his phone conversation to the family and grandmother begins to panic.
He tries Udey and Rheka’s phones again but no response still.
The house phone rings and Ranjeet answers.
He listens and slumps on a chair.
He informs the family that Udey and Rheka’s car caught on fire along the highway.
Grandmother breaks down and grandfather says they need to go to the police.
As they head towards the door, they are surprised to see someone coming in.

'East Meets West' Season 1 Episode 14 Recap - Aired: Tuesday 17 May 2016

Abhay and Lisa make plans to go for a candlelight dinner.

Banwari informs Rheka that Ranbir booked tickets for Udey and Lumita to go on their honeymoon.
Rheka tells him to let Lisa know about it and he agrees.
Rheka on her own, informs Lumita about it.


Abhay and Lisa are about to go for their dinner.
Ranbir stops them in anger and reminds them that tomorrow is the post-funeral ceremony for Lumita’s father and not a time to celebrate.
Lisa asks him why he doesn’t want them to go to dinner or their honeymoon.
Rheka, as usual backs Lisa up and challenges Ranbir.
Seeing the problem it is causing, Lumita says she will not be going on the honeymoon as well.



Hardeep comes to visit the family.   She apologises for coming unannounced but she wants them to send Udey and Lumita to attend the post-funeral ceremony of Jatan, taking place tomorrow.
She begs that Udey comes early so as to be in charge of everything because they don’t have a son and he needs to take on the role.
Lumita takes her aunt to her bedroom and Hardeep stares round the room in awe.
She asks Lumita if the family takes care of her.
Lumita cries and says she wants to go with her aunt; she says her in-laws want to send her on her honeymoon but she doesn't want to go.
Hardeep tells her to go on the honeymoon and she needs to know that this is now her family.


Abhay asks Lisa how she got to know that Udey and Lumita are going on honeymoon.
She says Rheka told her.
He advises her not to get involved in family matters.
She says she really wants to go on honeymoon as well.
He says something may work out.


Udey comes to greet Hardeep in the room and Hardeep tells him to take care of Lumita.
She also tells him that she has convinced Lumita to go on their honeymoon.
Udey is pleased to hear this.
Hardeep says she will be leaving but she needs Lumita to walk her out so they can chat some more.


Udey enters Rheka’s room and sees her sleeping but fully clothed.
He says he couldn't sleep so he came to see her.
She says recent events have affected him negatively and it's bothering her.
He says she is always right and it seems she convinced Lumita to go on the honeymoon.
Rheka is surprised but fakes a smile and lies that she is happy about it but she will be happier if Lisa and Abhay can go with them on the honeymoon.
Udey is happy about this.


Udey meets Abhay outside and tells that his mum wants to ensure that Abhay and Lisa also go on the honeymoon. Abhay is happy.


Lumita is praying in the morning. Ranbir goes to her but she ignores him.
Banwari comes and Ranbir asks how Rheka got to know about Udey and Lumita’s honeymoon.
Banwari lies that he has no idea.

The family sit down for breakfast.
Anjana prods her husband, Vinay, to say something.
He turns to Ranbir and says he wants to do something on his own; he has finished working on his project.
Ranbir tells him to continue working on it and they will help him set it up later.
Abhay says he also wants to join the business.
Ranjeet says it's a good idea and he asks Ranbir what he plans to give to Abhay.
Ranbir angrily says there’s no time yet; they will sort all of that later.
Abhay doesn’t look happy.


Nena brings in a travel agent to see Rheka.
He gives Rheka two tickets.
Rheka informs the family that she got tickets for Abhay and Lisa to also go on honeymoon.
She says she wants Ranbir to give the tickets to them by himself. She gives the tickets to Ranbir and he reluctantly hands them over to Abhay.


Lumita is looking at a photo of her father in the bedroom and crying. Udey enters the room and tells her to get ready so they can attend her father's post-funeral ceremony.


Grandmother sees her husband looking worried and asks him what is wrong.
He says he feels uneasy because Jatan was a decent and honest person.
He says if they take care of Lumita and Lisa, it will be their own way of showing respect to Jatan.
Udey and Lumita get downstairs and Udey asks Ranbir where everyone is.
Ranbir says they are running late but Udey and Lumita need to leave immediately.
They leave.


The rest of the family comes downstairs. Ranbir tells Rhama to tell Lisa that she is not coming along.
Rheka says in that case, she won't come as well since it is not important for the whole family to be there.
Ranbir says they have to be there.
Ranjeet says Abhay and Lisa need to also be there.
They all head out.


At the venue, the families are gathered. Lumita is crying so much that Hardeep takes her to a room to give her privacy.
The rest of the family arrives.
Rheka asks Hardeep for Lumita and Hardeep says she was crying so much, she had to take her into a room.
Rheka tells Udey to go and tell Lumita that she can stay with her aunt for a few days if she wants; no need to hurry back.
Udey meets Lumita in the room and tells her but Lumita says she will go back home with him.
Udey is very happy to hear this.


Udey goes out and tells Rheka that Lumita is coming home with them.
Rheka is surprised and starts to think of how to keep them apart.
She pretends to be happy.


Grandfather tells Govind that if he needs any help leaving town, like a ride to the station, he will provide it.
Govind says they won't be leaving town; they will stay till they are sure that Lumita is well settled.
Grandfather says, in that case, he can offer them his guesthouse to stay in. He tells Ranbir to arrange it but Govind says he is a man of principles and he will not accept the offer.
He says they will stay at a place of their own.


Lisa walks towards the temple in the house where Lumita is praying.
Umah stops her from entering with her shoes. Lumita comes out and tells her that she cannot go into a temple with shoes on.
Lisa apologises and Lumita tells her it is okay.

Ranbir comes and Umah informs him.
He shouts at the top of his voice that Lisa has no respect for man and for God. He says she is not supposed to wear shoes into the temple and problems started in the house ever since she arrived.
Lisa, once again, breaks down in tears.

Rheka appears and tells Umah to take Lumita to her room.
Ranbir gives her the look he reserves for only her.

'East Meets West' Season 1 Episode 13 Recap - Aired: Monday 16 May 2016

It is very early in the morning and someone is playing loud music and performing prayer rituals round the house.
Ranbir and Rheka are happy when they see it’s Lumita performing the rituals but Rheka, Vinay and Anjana are irritated as they struggle to sleep through the noise.
Udey sees Lumita and he is impressed.

Everyone comes downstairs for  prayers.
Grandmother commends Lumita for waking up very early to pray.
Lisa comes downstairs in her nightgown and Ranbir yells at her to learn how to dress appropriately.
He tells Abhay to order his wife back to her room.
Abhay tells Lisa to go to her room. She tries to protest but he yells at her to go.
After Lisa leaves, Ranbir tells Abhay that it is because of behaviours like this, that he doesn’t like Lisa. He tells Abhay to talk to her and teach her the proper way to behave.


Abhay enters the room and scolds Lisa for going downstairs in her nightgown. He says she has no common sense.
Lisa is crying. She says Abhay didn't tell her not to wear the nightgown.
Abhay apologises and says some people have conservative views in the house so she needs to behave accordingly. He promises to guide her.
She begs him to be patient with her.
He assures her that it won't happen again.


Rheka comes to meet Lisa when Abhay leaves the room.
She tells Lisa that the people at home are very traditional and Ranbir wanted Lumita to marry Abhay now he wants Lisa to behave like Lumita.
She tells her not to change her identity because Abhay likes her for who she is; If she behaves like Lumita then everyone will give Lumita the credit.
She reminds her that she will be cooking with Lumita but she shouldn’t cook traditional food, instead, she should make what she knows how to cook.


Lumita is in the kitchen making traditional food.
She smiles as she makes the food and talks to Nena about her father.
Lisa joins her in the kitchen and she tells Lisa that the dessert is almost done, all Lisa needs to do is add some sugar to it.
Lisa says she will be making what she knows how to and that is, caramel custard. She says when Lumita is done, Nena should come and inform her.

Nena comes to get her when Lumita is done in the kitchen.
Lisa tells Nena  to get her flour and eggs. Nena is surprised that she asked for eggs.

Rheka calls Nena and asks where she is going. Nena says she wants to go and ask grandmother about the items Lisa asked her to get.
Rheka tells her not to ask grandmother because Lisa has as much rights to make whatever she wants just like Lumita.


Lumita serves the family in dessert bowls and as she hands each person their bowl, they give her a gift.
When she gets to Ranbir, she bypasses him but he still offers her a gift and she tells Nena to collect it because her hands are full.
Ranbir is clearly hurt by this but he doesn’t say anything about it.

Lisa comes down with her own dessert and starts to serve.
She hands grandmother and grandfather their bowls first.

The houseman comes in and says someone used eggs in the kitchen.
Grandmother is alarmed and asks who would dare do such a thing.
Nena says Lisa used eggs in her dessert.
Ranbir is upset and asks Lisa if she asked anyone before using eggs.
He turns to ask Abhay why he didn’t tell her. He says they are vegetarians in the house and don't eat eggs.
Everyone leaves the living room.


Lisa tells Abhay that he could have warned her.
He apologises and she says it's too late; his father threw her custard away and he didn't say anything.
Abhay says they are vegetarians so they have to throw the custard away.
He tells her not to worry, he will tell her what she will cook, eat and what clothes to wear.


Lumita tells Rheka that she told Lisa to add sugar to the traditional dish to make everyone happy.
Rheka says Lisa doesn't respect her elders the way Lumita does.
She tells her to distance herself from Lisa and Ranbir's family.

Anjana is listening. She is not happy that it seems Lumita and Rheka are getting close and Lumita is on her way to becoming the favourite daughter-in-law.


Rheka enters her room and sees Anjana.  Anjana says Vinay has been trying to set up a business of his own for some time now but Ranbir doesn't allow anyone get involved in the business.
Rheka tells her to beg Vinay to be a little more patient because she knows how to take care of the business too.


Anjana goes to Vinay and says she feels no one is concerned about her..
She says Rheka spends more time with Lumita than her; she likes Lisa and the way she dresses but Ranbir is always shouting at her.
Vinay says Rheka will never accept Lumita.
Anjana thinks to herself that she needs to come up with a plan before Ranbir hands over the business to Udey or Abhay and Rheka makes Lumita the favourite.


Rheka goes to Udey’s room and tells him that he needs to concentrate more on the business. She says he has to go to the office.
Udey says if he goes, Lumita will be alone at home.
Rheka says she will take care of Lumita.
Lumita tells him not to worry about her; she will be fine. She picks out clothes for him to wear to the office.


Rhama and Umah are talking when Abhay comes in, looking worried.
Abhay begs Rhama to teach Lisa and make her understand the rules.
Rhama says Lisa is a good girl.
Umah says Lumita is better than Lisa.
Rhama says if Lisa is properly taught, she can be as good as Lumita.
Abhay complains that his father keeps putting Lisa down in front of others.
Rhama says she agrees with Ranbir on that because she and Rheka have never dressed like that to go downstairs, so what Lisa did was wrong and she needed to be corrected.


Udey gets to the office and the employees congratulate him on his wedding. They ask him if it's not too soon to be back at work; they thought he was away on honeymoon.
Udey says he had to come back because work had to be done.


Banwari tells Ranbir not to keep shouting because it achieves nothing.
Ranbir says the only reason Lisa is still in the house is because he can't see Lumita go through another trauma.
Banwari says Ranbir needs to come up with a plan to shut Rheka up for good.


Rheka joins them and Banwari leaves.
Ranbir asks Rheka what her plan is now.
She says she came to let him know she has kept the promise not to let Udey get close to Lumita. She tells him to call the office to confirm.

She leaves and Banwari comes back to ask what she said.
Ranbir says she didn't say anything.
Banwari says Ranbir should focus on Udey and Lumita instead of Lisa, so Rheka doesn't win.
Ranbir agrees and gives Banwari instructions.


Lumita comes into Anjana’s room.
Anjana asks for Udey and Lumita says he has gone to work. Anjana is surprised that Udey is returning to work instead of spending time with his wife.
Lumita asks who does all the cooking in the house; she has nothing to do so she wants to cook to keep herself busy.


Ranbir enters the room and asks Rhama what she's thinking.
Rhama says she was apprehensive to see how Rheka will treat Lumita when she gets to the house but she's happy to see to see they are getting along.
She says Lumita is their responsibility and they need to take care of her.
Ranbir agrees.
Rhama then says Rheka has accepted her daughter-in-law, so Ranbir should also accept Lisa.
He gets upset and tells her to get him a cup of tea.


Udey gets back home from the office. Rheka meets him by the door and tells him to go and freshen up as Lumita will be waiting for him.
He agrees.
Ranbir is watching Rheka from the balcony.

'East Meets West' Season 1 Episode 12 Recap - Aired: Friday 13 May 2016

Lumita is staring at a photograph of her late father and crying.
Udey enters the room and tells her that he is sorry; he doesn’t know whose fault it is.
He lets her know that she can stay with her family but she should also know that she can come home whenever she wants because it is her home. He tells her that everyone will be waiting for her, including him.



Back home, Rheka is blaming Ranbir for Lumita’s refusal to come home.
She goes on and on and Ranbir begs her to stop.
Udey comes in upset, he says his mother is right and Ranbir didn't let them know how serious Jatan’s sickness was.
Ranbir is surprised that the usually quiet and respectful Udey is speaking to him this way.
Lisa tries to defend Ranbir by telling Udey that it is not his fault but Ranbir lashes out at her.
He angrily tells her to shut up because everything is her fault.
Abhay tells Ranbir to stop mixing issues; everything is Ranbir’s fault and  he won't stand and allow anyone insult his wife.
Ranbir wants to respond but grandfather tells them all to stop and go to their rooms.


Rheka thanks Udey for supporting her and says she's sorry about the whole thing.
Udey says he can't get the look on Lumita's face out of his head; he feels so helpless.
Rheka starts to blame Ranbir again.


Ranbir is in his room, replaying everything in his head again.
Rhama touches his hands lovingly. He says everything he has done has gone wrong; he has lost everyone’s trust, Jatan’s friendship, Lumita's confidence and Udey's respect.
Rhama assures him that everything will be alright.

Lumita is still looking at a photograph of her dad.
Govind and Hardeep peep into the room and then go out to talk about her.
Govind says he doesn’t know how Lumita will live without her father. It upsets him so much.
Lumita hears them and Hardeep turns to console her.
She assures her that they are there for her and Udey is there for her too.
Govind says he is not sending her back to Udey.
Hardeep asks Lumita if she agrees with Govind.
Lumita doesn’t respond.
Govind says he will go and book the tickets for them to go back home. He tells Lumita to pack their things.

Lisa is crying in the room. Abhay comes in to console her. He says the way his father yelled at her was wrong.
He tells her that it's his fault and they shouldn't have come back in the first place.
Lisa says it's okay and she thinks she should stay away from family matters that don't concern her.
Abhay says she didn't do anything wrong and she should know his father is really kind at heart but the entire issue with the wedding has put him on edge.
Banwari meets Ranbir and says the harder Ranbir tries to get rid of his problem,  the harder the problem gets; he got Lumita and Udey married but something else has happened.
He says Rheka won by accident and Lumita has refused to come back.
He asks Ranbir what he will do.
Ranbir says he will not take it lying down but he can't telll Banwari of his plans as he doesn't know what Rheka is planning as well.


Abhay asks Lisa what is wrong
Lisa says she's thinking of Udey;he’s Abhay’s brother and needs his support.
She says she thinks they should go and talk to Lumita.
Abhay reminds her that she got into trouble when she tried to help.
Lisa says they should do it for Udey, he's lonely.
Udey comes into the room and apologises to Lisa; Ranbir shouted at her because of him.
Lisa tells him to go and talk to Lumita and make her understand, so she can come back.
Udey says he knows she will come back but he doesn't want to force her to; she should come back when she feels like it.
Abhay says when Lumita comes back home, they will all go out for dinner; his treat.


Lumita is packing up her things and crying over her dad.
She picks up his photo and hugs to her chest.


Back in the house, grandfather and grandmother have guests, a couple.
Rheka introduces Lisa to them as Abhay’s wife and Ranbir’s daughter in law.
Grandmother tells Lisa to touch their feet.
The woman asks for Abhay and Lisa says she will call him.
She goes to the bottom of the stairs and starts to call for him loudly.
The lady asks Rheka for her own daughter in law.
Banwari responds before Rheka can, he says Lumita just lost her father so she is with her family.
Udey excuses himself and goes to his room.
The visitors are shocked.
Ranbir is embarrassed


The last session for Udey and Banwari...

Rheka goes to meet Udey jn his room. He's sitting on the bed, thinking.
She tells him she's sorry and she doesn't like seeing him upset.
She says she will try and fix it; she will go to Lumita and talk to her. She doesn't like to see him sad.
Udey says he's fine and Lumita is not to blame. If she wants to come, fine and if she doesn’t, it’s fine.
Rheka says Lumita's place is by his side.

Lisa listens to everything. She goes to her room and starts to remember everything Udey did for her and Abhay.


Lumita, Govind and Hardeep, finish packing.
Hardeep sees Lumita is sad so she asks what the matter is.
Lumita says her father always sat in a particular chair in the room.
Hardeep begs her to stop crying. Govind assures her everything will be alright.

Hardeep tells Govind that they should probably call Lumita in laws.
Govind is adamant that he wants nothing to do with them.
They open the door to leave and Lisa is standing there.
Govind is upset that she has the nerve to show up.
Lisa says she wants to talk to Lumita.
Govind says she should hurry up because their train leaves soon.
Lisa enters to meet Lumita whilst Hardeep and Govind wait outside.

Banwari rushes into the living room where the family is gathered and hands Ranbir a document. He says he had to wait 2 hours to get the documents but he finally got them.
Rheka asks Abhay where Lisa is.
Abhay says Lisa has gone out.
They ask where she has gone. He says he doesn't know and her phone is unreachable.
Rheka looks at Ranbir with a smirk, Ranbir is trying to hide his fury.


Lisa tells Lumita that she doesn't know much about Indian culture but she heard from Udey and Abhay that a wife’s place is with her husband. She says everyone is worried and Udey even moreso.
She asks if she thinks it is Udey's fault because she is punishing him and he's such a nice person.
Everyone is blaming her and Abhay now.
She asks what about Udey, he is a very good man, he’s her husband now, doesn’t she want to stay with him.
She says everything is going wrong back home and she thinks Lumita should come back so everything can be alright. If she doesn’t come, Udey will never forgive himself and she won’t be happy.
This was her father’s dream and doesn’t she want to fulfil his dream?
She says she wants an answer.
Lumita listens quietly to everything Lisa is saying.


Ranbir complains that it's just been 2 days and Lisa goes out without telling anyone; what a rude girl.
Rheka says Lisa comes from a culture where people go out without permission.
Grandmother is upset. She tells Abhay to make sure he lets his wife know never to leave the house without permission again.
Grandfather tells Abhay to call Lisa on the phone again.
He tries and she is still unreachable.
Rheka says they can wait for her a little longer before they eat.
Ranbir says they won't wait for her any longer, she went out without telling them so they can eat without her.
Ramjeet says they can wait a little longer.
Grandmother resounds her warning to Abhay and ushers the family to the dining table, to eat.

Lisa suddenly appears with Lumita. She tells grandmother that she went to Lumita's place.
Grandmother rushes to meet them. She is happy and says Lisa did the right thing.

Ranbir offers Lumita a chair at the dining but Rheka offers her another.
Lumita takes the chair that Rheka offered.

They settle down to dinner and begin to chat at the table
Grandmother tells the brides that they will cook for everyone tomorrow.
Lisa says she doesn't know how to make traditional food, she can only make caramel custard.
Ranbir angrily tells her that she will make traditional food.
Rheka says she is expecting some important guests and she will like Lisa to make her caramel custard.
Lisa stands up, the same time as Ranbir and bumps onto him.
She is obviously mortified and immediately apologises but he is upset and tells Rhama to teach her some manners.

After dinner, everyone clears out. Lumita and Lisa stay back to clear up.
Lisa tells Lumita that she doesn't know how to make traditional food.
Lumita tells her that it's okay, she will make the food and she will allow Lisa help her make dessert.


Rheka takes Lumita to the room and tells her that she did the right thing by coming back. She says Lumita may be wondering why she has changed so much but she has.
She says the things she said the day at the restaurant was only because she was concerned about her son but now she knows he made the right decision.
Lumita is surprised at the sudden change in behaviour.
Rheka continues, she says a lot a has happened and Lumita lost her father all because of Ranbir; she knows she is her mother-in-law but from today, Lumita should consider her as her mother.
She tells that it’s been only a few days since her father passed and she would like her to keep her distance from Udey until after the memorial.

Udey comes in and says he is happy she has accepted Lumita with all her heart and he heard everything so he will do what she wants.
Rheka thanks him and gets up to leave.
She turns back in the doorway and sees Lumita making her bed on the carpet, she smiles and leaves.

'East Meets West' Season 1 Episode 11 Recap - Aired: Thursday 12 May 2016

Ranbir gets a call from Govind informing him that Jatan's condition has worsened and he should send Lumita over to the hospital.
Ranbir says he will come with Lumita right away.
After the call, Ranbir remembers what Rheka said about making sure Lumita has no rights as Udey’s wife.
He begins to think that if he takes Lumita away on her wedding night, Rheka will have one up against him.
He wrestles with himself on what to do; if Lumita doesn’t go to the hospital and something terrible happens, he will not be able to forgive himself but Jatan’s wish is for Lumita to be married and enjoy her first night as a newlywed.....
He decides that at the crack of dawn, he will take Lumita and Udey to the hospital.
Rhama comes to ask him what he's still doing up.
He says he wants to take Lumita to the hospital in the morning.
Rhama says it's a good idea.



Lumita wakes up from the carpet and places her pillow on the bed.  She watches Udey sleep then touches his feet before going to freshen up.
She comes back and says a prayer for her father.
Udey wakes up and sees her praying.  She sees him and tries to explain herself but he tells her that it is a good thing to pray early and she should say one on his behalf.
He tells her he will take a shower then they will go downstairs together to have breakfast.


Abhay and Lisa get downstairs and greet the family.
Lumita and Udey also get downstairs and Lumita goes to all the elders, one by one, to greet and ask for blessings.
Ranbir tells Udey and Lumita that they should follow him to the hospital.
Lumita asks if her father is okay.
Rheka says there is no hurry and they should have breakfast first.
Grandmother says Rheka should let them go.
Abhay tells Udey if he needs anything, he should let him know.
Rheka says it's not necessary because Ranbir is Jatan's very good friend and he will handle anything.


When they leave, grandmother ushers the rest of the family towards the dining table for breakfast.
Lisa says they should send her breakfast to the room then she heads back to the room.
Everyone is shocked at her behaviour.
Abhay is both shocked and embarrassed.

He enters the room, upset, saying she's not helping, the family just accepted them and now she goes and pulls such a stunt.
He says she has offended his grandmother by refusing to join the family for breakfast.
She says she didn't think it would be a problem because Udey and Lumita didn't have breakfast.
He tells her to apologise to everyone and from now on she should never behave like this.
She agrees and apologizes to him.
He says they should go down stairs and have breakfast.
She suggests that they wait for Lumita and he agrees.


Grandfather asks grandmother why she's worried.
Grandmother says it's the first morning of the brides in the house and one went to the hospital while the other had breakfast in her room.
Rheka hears and says it's true; It's worrisome that Ranbir’s daughter in law is not aware of their customs.
Rhama comes in and asks grandmother what is wrong.
Grandfather tells her to forget it.
Rheka says Ranbir forced the dates and the weddings and look how things have turned out; you can't change the course of destiny.
Grandmother cautions her to mind the things she says.


At the hospital Govind sees Lumita as he is coming out of Jatan’s room and angrily says at last, she's here. He accuses her of changing already and has completely forgotten about her father.
Hardeep comes out of the room and they ask her what is wrong.
Govind says there's nothing they can do because it is all over.
Lumita rushes inside and sees her dead father still lying on the bed, about to be taken out to the morgue.
 She breaks down and Hardeep comes in to console her.
Govind says her father's last wish was to see her but she wasn't there.
Ranbir is in shock.
Udey asks why they weren't called in the night so Lumita could come.
Govind says he called Ranbir.
Ranbir breaks down in tears.
He says Govind indeed called him but he didn't think this would happen.
Govind goes off on him and even Udey registers his disappointment at his uncle.
Ranbir tries to go to Lumita but Govind tells him to get out. He says he lost Jatan because of him and he doesn't want to lose Lumita.
Govind tells Lumita that Ranbir is the only one to blame.


They come to take Jatan's body away and Lumita struggles with them.
Back in the house, grandfather says when Jatan leaves hospital they should have a reception for the newlyweds because a lot of guests couldn’t make the actual wedding due to the short notice.


Lisa comes downstairs to apologise for offending them
Grandmother says it's okay but it shouldn't happen again and when Lumita returns, she and Lisa will cook.
Lisa says she can make pasta but not traditional food.
Abhay tells her that there are a lot of women in the house who can teach her how to cook.

Ranbir and Udey return home, sad.
Grandmother asks where Lumita is.
Ranbir hugs his father and says Jatan has passed on. He starts to cry uncontrollably.
Everyone is in shock.

Ranbir goes to his room and remembers his friend, Jatan and everything that happened during the wedding.
Rhama comes in to console him. She says he took Lumita there as soon as he could.
He says he really wanted to make Jatan’s dream come true but because of him, she couldn't even see her father on his deathbed.
Rhama asks what he's talking about.
He tells her about the call from Govind.
She tells him not to beat himself up.


It's the day of the funeral and everyone is wearing white.
Lumita is devastated and clinging to the body.
Grandmother consoles Hardeep.
Rheka comes to Hardeep and says Ranbir didn't tell her that Govind called that night and if she had known, she would have taken Lumita to the hospital herself. She starts to blame Ranbir but grandmother tells her it is not the time.

Jatan is cremated. Lumita is inconsolable.
Ranbir is in tears.


The family returns home.
Ranjeet tells his father that what happened shouldn't have. Grandmother says Lumita is so young and shouldn't be dealing with such but they can only bring her back after 13 days.
Ranbir says they can bring her back, she needs Udey and a lot of people are around that can take care of her.
Rheka says she has to spend the 13 days with her folks as her father just died.
Grandfather says Ranbir has a point and Lumita can come back.
Ranbir says they should all go and see Govind so that he will allow Lumita come back.


They go to see Lumita's family.
Grandfather commisserates with Govind but when Ranbir speaks Govind gets upset and says Lumita will not go back, she will stay with them.
Hardeep says Govind can't say that because Lumita is their daughter-in-law.
Govind is adamant but Hardeep pleads with him.
She tells the family to wait while she gets Lumita.
She brings Lumita out and tells her that her father will want her to go to her in-laws and lead a happy life.
Ranbir begs her to come.
She hugs Govind and says she doesn't want to go with them.
Rhama begs her but she says she doesn't want to go.

Hardeep begs the family and says she can't force Lumita. She begs them to let Lumita stay for a few more days.
Rheka says Hardeep is right and they should allow Lumita stay.

Udey says he wants to see Lumita.
The family goes outside and Rheka is happy things are going her way
They ask for Udey and Rheka says she will get him but grandfather tells her to let him talk to Lumita.
Rheka wonders what Udey will be discussing with Lumita.

'East Meets West' Season 1 Episode 10 Recap - Aired: Wednesday 11 May 2016

Ranbir is still in the hospital hallway with Udey, Lumita and Jatan’s siblings, Govind and Hardeep.
The doctor comes out of surgery and Lumita asks how her father is.
He tells them that Jatan is ok but unstable so they need to keep him under observation for 24hours.

Jatan is wheeled out of the theatre and Lumita breaks down.
They take him to a private room.
Ranbir walks away but Udey stays back.



Udey enters the hospital room. Govind sees him and is about to send him out but Hardeep begs him.
Ranbir enters the room and pleads for mercy. He begs for a chance to make it right.
He says he brought the priest with him, so Udey and Lumita can get married, right here in the hospital.
He tells an unconscious Jatan that he will fulfil his promise and Udey will marry Lumita right here.
Ranbir tells the priest to continue and the priest concludes the ceremony.
The couple take blessings from Ranbir.
In excitement Ranbir goes to Jatan and tells him that his daughter is married; from now on Lumita is his daughter, his responsibility and he will look after her.


He gets home in excitement and calls for Rheka.  He tells her that she should come and meet her daughter in law.
Rheka asks what's going on and Ranbir says they got married.
Rheka berates him for going behind her back and Ranbir begs her to forget the past.
Rheka says she will never accept the marriage.
Grandmother and grandfather beg her to accept it because they are already married.
She says her condition was that both brides will come into the house at the same time.
She keeps going on about the issue till Ranbir screams at her to look towards the door and see Abhay and Lisa are there.
He has kept his own end of the deal.
Rheka is shocked.
Udey begs her to allow Lumita into the house since her conditions have been met.
Ranbir goes to the doorway and tells Abhay and Lisa to come in.
Rheka tells them to hold on.


Grandmother tells Rhama to bring the things needed to welcome the couples properly.
She goes to Rheka and begs her to let go of her anger.
Rhama brings the tray for blessings and performs the welcome ritual for Abhay and Lisa, just as Rheka does the same for Udey and Lamita, begrudgingly.
Grand mother blesses the daughters- in-law.


Jatan is struggling in bed. Govind and Hardeep send for the doctor.
The doctor checks him and tells them to let him rest as he is unstable and under observation for 24 hours.
Govind asks Hardeep if it wasn't too hasty for them to have allowed Lumita still get married under the present circumstances.
Hardeep assures him that it wasn’t wrong because it was Jatan's wish for her to get  married.
Govind says he wants to go and get Lumita to come and stay by her father’s side.
She tells him that Lumita belongs with her in laws now.


The rituals for the new brides are being performed.
 Rheka watches everything and thinks to herself that she will ensure that Lumita doesn't have any rights as Udey's wife.
Grandmother tells the brides to bow to the goddess.
After the rituals, they all move to the living room but Lamita stays back to pray for her father.
Ranbir hears her as she is praying and waits for her.
As she is crying, he goes to console her. He claims responsibility and begs her for forgiveness even as he promises that she will not go through problems in her life again.
Rheka comes to meet them. She says Ranbir cares for Lumita so much that he has forgotten his own daughter in law, Lisa.
She tells them to come inside as everyone is waiting for them.


Ranbir and Lumita join the rest of the family.
Grandmother and Rhama tell Lumita that they will take care of her.
Rheka reminds them that Lisa is also their daughter in law and they should take care of her too, she asks Ranbir if she's right.
Grandmother tells Rhama to take Lisa to her room and Ruchi to take Lumita to her room.
Ruchi takes Lumita to her room and tells her to wait for Udey.


Rhama and Anjana take Lisa to her room. Lisa sees the beautifully decorated room and gushes about it. She says she thinks everyone should get married in India.
They tell her to sit and give the glass of milk to Abhay when he comes.
She asks why and the laugh.

Udey enters the room, sees a nervous Lumita and sits next  to her.
He is kind of nervous himself and as he calls her name, there’s a knock on the door.
He opens it and it's his mother. She says it's very urgent.
He follows her out and she says she's worried about Lumita; she is upset about her dad and being a simple girl, it would be better for Udey to be her friend first before becoming a husband.
She tell Udey that she hopes he understands what she is saying.
 He thanks her and returns to the room.


Abhay enter the room and sees Lisa standing in the room, dressed in a nightwear.
He leads her to sit on the bed and tells her that in their custom, the bride waits for her husband sitting there. She asks why and he says it just is.


Udey enters the room and sits beside a crying and scared Lumita.  He begs her not to cry and says he understands what she's going through. He tells her that she should treat him as a friend; will sleep on the carpet so she can have the bed.
She tells him that she will sleep on the carpet because he might not be used to it.
She thanks him and lies down on the floor.


Abhay puts on the music player and dances with Lisa.
He welcomes her home and she tells him she loves him.
He says he can't believe that his father has accepted him and they are home.
She gives him the milk.
He carries her and places her on the bed.


Rhama meets Ranbir in the library and tells him that it is a good thing that he brought Abhay and Lisa home.
He asks if she's happy and she says everyone is.
He tells he to go and get some sleep.
She leaves and Rheka appears.

Ranbir says it looks like something is bothering her.
Rheka says what she will tell him will give him sleepless nights.
She says he has won and Udey is married to Lumita but she will ensure that Lumita has no rights as Udey’s wife; she will use any means necessary, either by hook or by crook.
Ranbir stands there just watching her.
She walks away.
